Our Nutrition Programs
URRO provides comprehensive nutrition interventions focused on both preventive and curative nutrition to address the nutritional needs of vulnerable communities, particularly in the Bay region of Somalia. These interventions are implemented through partnerships with UNICEF, WHO, WFP, and local ministries, with the goal of combating malnutrition and promoting long-term health. The key programs include:
Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP):
URRO provides curative treatment for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) through both fixed and mobile sites, offering medical care, therapeutic feeding, and regular follow-ups.
Stabilization Center (SC):
URRO operates Stabilization Centers that offer intensive care for severely malnourished children with medical complications, providing both curative treatment and nutritional support in specialized facilities.
Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Programs:
URRO promotes preventive nutrition initiatives such as breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and parental education to improve early childhood nutrition and reduce malnutrition risks.
Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP):
URRO implements TSFP to provide supplementary food to children with moderate acute malnutrition (MAM), as well as pregnant and lactating women, to prevent further deterioration and support recovery.
High-Energy Biscuit (HEB) Distribution:
URRO distributes High-Energy Biscuits as part of its emergency response, targeting vulnerable individuals in crises where access to cooking facilities is limited. HEB is also used to prevent micronutrient deficiencies in young children and school-age children, as well as in emergency food distribution and school feeding programs.
Cooking Demonstrations:
URRO conducts cooking demonstrations to educate communities on preparing nutritious meals using locally available foods, promoting better dietary practices and improved nutritional outcomes.
